THE mystery over Terrence Romeo’s sneaker choice continued on Thursday when the Gilas Pilipinas standout wore taped-up Nike Kobe IXs again in the national team's practice.
The GlobalPort superstar finally granted his first interview since late in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, but was tightlipped on the latest matter involving his intriguing choice of shoes.
Romeo, a Peak endorser, has been wearing different versions of Kobe Bryant’s ninth signature shoe with Nike since the start of the Governors’ Cup, wearing Kobe IX Elite Lows in the opener against Rain or Shine, Kobe IX Beethoven against Phoenix on Wednesday night, before rocking Kobe IX Mamba Moments in the national’s team's first practice for the Fiba Asia Cup. All three shoes had tapes covering the iconic Swoosh.
“No comment,” was all Romeo could say about the matter.
What he opened up on is his excitement on his return to the national team after making the 12-man roster for the reformatted Asian championships.
“Masaya, magkakaroon na naman kami ng chance i-represent ang country,” Romeo said. “Sobrang thankful kami. Sobrang thankful ako kay coach Chot sa tiwala, ganun din sa management na bumubuo ng Gilas.
“Ibibigay namin yung best namin,” he added. “Gagawin ko lahat ng makakaya ko, yung alam kong maitutulong ko sa team.”
Romeo also expects the Gilas cadet teammates Matthew Wright, Carl Bryan Cruz, Roger Pogoy, and Jio Jalalon to continue their development following their Jones Cup stints.
“Sobrang sipag saka talagang focused sila sa mga ginagawa nila,” Romeo said. “ Alam ko magiging maganda yung lalaruin nila this coming Fiba.”
