WHEN Team Pilipinas resumes practice on Thursday, coaches will await with eager anticipation on whether Thirdy Ravena will show up to join the national pool for the Fiba Basketball World Cup Asian qualifiers.
National coach Yeng Guiao said there is still no official word from Ateneo or the Ravena camp on whether the Blue Eagles' high-flying star will join the pool as the 15th man for away matches against Qatar and Kazakhstan.
“Hindi namin sigurado kung makakarating bukas (Thursday) si Thirdy,” said Guiao on Wednesday night. “Siya actually ‘yung 15th man.”
Guiao has included Ravena in the pool, which is nothing new as the national coach has previously named Kobe Paras, Ricci Rivero, and Kai Sotto in the pool in previous World Cup qualifiers windows.
Guiao said the presence of Ravena will mean that Ateneo and head coach Tab Baldwin have allowed the reigning UAAP Season 81 finals MVP to join the national pool for the sixth and final window of the Fiba Basketball World Cup.
“We didn’t release his name right away because he had to go through the process of asking permission first from Ateneo and from coach Tab. (Tonight), malalaman kung pinayagan siya kung darating siya,” said Guiao.
Aside from Ravena’s presence, the second practice of Gilas will also see the team plunge into full training after Guiao spent the first day of practice discussing the plans and schedule of the team.
“Dapat makakilos na as a team,” said Guiao.
