NATIONAL coach Yeng Guiao is using the four days before Team Pilipinas' campaign in the fifth window of the Fiba World Cup Asian Qualifiers to strengthen the team's chemistry and make the necessary adjustments.
After a week that saw Team Pilipinas lose three of four tuneup games against Jordan and Lebanon, Guiao stressed the need for the players to adopt to his system and develop chemistry.
He pointed out that from the 20-man pool, only Paul Lee, Beau Belga, and Gabe Norwood have had extensive experience playing under him.
"May mga nalilito pa, may mga nako-confuse pa doon sa execution natin kaya we try to adjust the plays to make it simpler," he said.
He noted the team also added special plays for big men June Mar Fajardo and Greg Slaughter to maximize its obvious size advantage.
"Hindi natin nabibigayan ng additonal touches yung mga malalaki natin. Basically it's the guard who's taking more shots. So we want to even it up. Merong additional options kay June Mar and Greg," he said.
The next three days of practice before the game against Kazakhstan on Friday at the MoA Arena will also be used for viewing to break down the plays of their opponents.
"Importante talaga sa international game 'yung scouting. So we'll do that in the next three days, work on our scouting report and try to formulate a game plan based on it," said the national coach.
