TEAM Pilipinas beat IECO Green Warriors, 99-82, on Sunday in the national team’s first and only tune-up game for the Fiba Basketball World Cup Asian qualifiers against Iran.
The Nationals pulled away in the fourth to pick up the win, a day after the squad leaves for Tehran for their match against Iran on Thursday.
Head coach Yeng Guiao was satisfied with the victory even with a few lapses in their game.
“We finished the game really strong. We had some lapses with the offensive rebounding. Pero ‘yun lang,” Guiao said, lauding the IECO Green Warriors formed by Blackwater owner Dioceldo Sy that will be competing in the 2018 Asia Super League Terrific 12.
“This is a strong team that boss Dioceldo formed. They have good imports with quality locals. It’s a good test for us.”
The Philippine men’s basketball team will hold one more practice on Monday before leaving for Iran.
Greg Slaughter missed the tune-up game due to an injury, while Christian Standhardinger also did not see action due to a bum stomach.
