THE Philippines got off to a bad start in the FIBA 3x3 U18 World Championships after losing its first two games Thursday night at the Astana Opera House in Kazakhstan.
The Filipinos fell to New Zealand in their opening match, 21-11, before losing to Brazil later on, 20-14.
Joshua Sinclair led the team in scoring both times, finishing with eight points in the loss against the Brazilians.
“Really tough day. Sorry we couldn’t deliver Philippines,” an apologetic Sinclair later posted in his twitter account@jsinclairrrx.
Now the Filipinos need to win their remaining assignments against Hungary and Spain to make the next round of the five-day meet which features a total of 20 teams.
The other members of the team are John Lloyd Clemente, Kyle Christian Tan, and Theo Joshua Flores. Coaching the Filipinos is Mark David Solano.
Kobe Paras and Co. also failed to advance in the group stage of last year’s edition of the tournament after finishing their preliminary round campaign with a 2-3 (win-loss) record.
