TAIPEI – Yang Chin-Min, Tseng Wen-Ting, and Doug Creighton are making their return to the Chinese Taipei national team on Friday in the Fiba World Cup Asia qualifiers against Gilas Pilipinas.
Yang, Tseng, and Creighton were part of the final 12 of Chinese Taipei that was announced on Thursday, joining naturalized player Quincy Davis.
Also part of the team are I-Chieh Su, Cheng-Ju Lu, Cheng Liu, Yi-Hsiang Chou, Po-Chen Chou, Yu-An Chiang, Ying-Chun Chen, and Kuan-Chuan Chen.
Yang, Tseng, and Creighton are no stranger to Filipino fans, having seen action for the Taiwanese in the 2013 Fiba Asia Championship hosted by the Philippines.
But the three players were not able to play in the Chinese Taipei national team during the previous two windows of the Asia qualifiers because of their commitments in the local league.
Gilas coach Chot Reyes said they are already familiar with Chinese Taipei, but the team’s veteran presence will definitely be a boost for the home team that will play the Philippine squad on Friday.
“We already know that they are bringing back two of their veterans. They’ve reactivated one of their best scoring point guards and Creighton is back in the line-up. They’ve got four new guys that luckily we know them quite a bit because we’ve played with them so many times.”
“But still, we have to be prepared for those guys. It’s obvious that by bring their veterans, they are gearing up for being able to match up in the endgame,” said Reyes.
