COACHING awards should be shared with players, Gilas Pilipinas mentor Tab Baldwin noted as he deflected credit after receiving the award for the category Sportsmen Who Take The Lead during the Spin.ph Sportsman of the Year awards.
Baldwin joined 2015 Sportsman of the Year Calvin Abueva, one of his players at Gilas Pilipinas, sports patron Manny V. Pangilinan, volleyball star Alyssa Valdez and other sports heroes feted by the Spin.ph, the country’s No. 1 sports portal, on Saturday at the Ceremonial Hall of the Marriott Hotel.
“To be acknowledged for leadership, first of all, there is no coaching award that doesn’t belong to the players of the teams that I have coached,” said Baldwin.
“If they had not accomplished things and been successful nobody would be mentioning my name, so this award should really be broken up into a whole lot of pieces and distributed amongst the players where it really deserves to be,” said Baldwin.
“It’s such a privilege and an honor to lead men who are capable and who desire to be led well, and amongst them also there are many great leaders,”
