TAB Baldwin’s job as program director of Gilas Pilipinas is safe - for now.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) executive director Renauld ‘Sonny’ Barrios said Baldwin remains with the federation to oversee the program of the national team in the coming years, even after making statements critical of the PBA, its officicials, and coaches as well as Fiba that sparked a controversy.
“Hindi naman palagay ko," said Barrios when asked if Baldwin is in danger of losing his job as SBP program director during Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum via video conference, "not unless magsasalita uli siya ng wala sa lugar.”
Baldwin was fined P75,000 and suspended three games by the PBA for his comments deemed 'detrimental to the league' his capacity as TNT assistant coach. The former Gilas coach was later fired by the KaTropa.
Even after the controversy, Barrios said that SBP president Al Panlilio even plans to hold a meeting with Baldwin soon to plot the plans for the national team.
“President Al Panlilio, in fact, wants to have a video conference with him and with the SBP team to address the moving forward of the program,” said Barrios, who was joined in the forum by SBP director of operations Butch Antonio.

Barrios, however, said Panlilio has the final say on the matter.
“Wala naman kasing in a given situation, nobody has a lock on the position. Not me. Not Butch. We serve at the pleasure of the president,” said Barrios. “Sa ngayon, wala pa kaming concrete na pinag-uusapan kung paano ang implementation ng programa.”
