CHANGSHA, China – Gilas Pilipinas may be through to the second round of the Fiba Asia Championship, but coach Tab Baldwin admits there’s still a lot of work to do if the team is to fulfill its dream of making it to the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympics.
Baldwin in particular cited the Philippine quintet’s inconsistency during its first round preliminary campaign that ended on Friday night with an easy 110-64 win over winless Kuwait.
The Filipinos go into the second round of the meet having won two of their first three outings to finish No. 2 in Group B behind top team Palestine, an 85-79 winner over Hong Kong late Friday night.
“If erratic is the form that I was looking for, then we’re pretty well placed right there,” said Baldwin later. “But we’re positive enough to know that we can play well.”
