WITH Gilas Pilipinas short in numbers in their preparation for the Fiba Olympic Qualifying Tournament, GlobalPort’s Stanley Pringle has expressed willingness to join the practices of the national team.
Gilas Pilipinas coach Tab Baldwin said Pringle told him on Saturday he wants to be part of the national team’s practices with a few players still injured or banged up ahead of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Manila.
“I talked to Stanley Pringle today and Stan said that, ‘So coach, if you are short on bodies, if you need a hand, just call me,’” said Baldwin.
Pringle, however, won’t be eligible to be part of the Gilas Pilipinas team for the Fiba OQT in Manila on July as he was not part of the initial 24-man lineup submitted by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas to Fiba.
Still, Baldwin was touched by Pringle’s gesture.
“When people say that, honestly, I get goose bumps. I really do. I think we should feel that way for our national team. I appreciate those guys out there,” said Baldwin.
The national team has also received an offer from Rain or Shine to have Raymund Almazan on practices with Paul Lee injured to play for the Fiba OQT.
“Thank you so much for the Rain or Shine organization for making that offer. Because until we get June Mar Fajardo out there and Dray (Blatche) going full speed, we are really light on numbers and this is going to help us a lot," said Baldwin.
