Serbia opens Fiba World Cup title bid with easy win over Angola

SERBIA served notice of what Gilas Pilipinas and the rest of the field should expect from it after demolishing Angola, 105-59, in the opening game of the Fiba Basketball World Cup on Saturday at the Foshan International Sports and Cultural Arena in China.

Bogdan Bogdanovic led the Serbs with 24 points while fellow NBA player Nikola Jokic had 14 and Nikola Milutinov 14 for one of the teams favored to win the 2019 edition of the meet.

    Boban Marjanovic finished with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds for a Serbs side which will next face Gilas Pilipinas on Monday.

    The Serbians were never threatened by the Angolans and led by as 49 points (101-52) on the way to the lopsided victory.

    Angola was led by Carlos Morais with 15 points and Leonel Paulo added 10.
