SEAN Chambers is now a permanent fixture of Gilas Pilipinas as one of the assistant coaches of Tim Cone in the national team, Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas executive director Erika Dy confirmed on Monday.
Chambers will continue his role with Gilas Pilipinas as deputy coach, with his current job as Far Eastern University head coach in the UAAP still his main priority.
The 59-year-old Chambers will have time for Gilas with the UAAP taking a break for the Fiba window where the Philippines will face New Zealand on November 21 and Hong Kong on November 24 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The 1996 Governors’ Cup PBA Best Import winner was initially included in the Gilas Pilipinas coaching staff after the unavailability of deputies LA Tenorio and Josh Reyes during the Fiba Olympic Qualifying Tournament last July.
In previous interviews, Cone said Chambers’ positive vibes reverberates with Gilas Pilipinas during the OQT stint.
“He is like one of the most wonderful people to have around you. He is a perfect fit,” said Cone.
Dy agrees with Cone’s statements as it is visible that the six-time PBA champion and 1996 PBA grand slam titlist enjoys coaching and being around with Gilas and with FEU.
