THE Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) will have a new president when it holds its elections this October.
The SBP polls later in the year will be the next agenda for the basketball federation following the revisions to its by-laws that was approved in the National Congress at the Meralco headquarters in Pasig City.

During his president's report, SBP head Al S. Panlilio hinted at stepping aside after the next elections.
"Thank you for your trust, your support, and your unwavering passion. It has been a privilege to serve and look forward to cheering for Philippine basketball with all of you in the years to come," Panlilio said.
Asked about his future in the SBP afterwards, Panlilio said he is no longer allowed to run for president for a third straight term in the October election, but is eligible to come back and run again in succeeding polls.
ASP explains.
"In terms of the new by-laws, I've actually served two four-year terms. Before, it stops at that and no one can come back. Now, the adjustment is you can serve 12 years, but two four-year terms, [then] you take a break, and you come back for a third term.
"Technically, I'm termed out from that," Panlilio said.
Even if he gives way to a new president after the next SBP elections, Panlilio will continue to have an influence in Philippine basketball just like the man he succedded, SBP chairman emeritus Manny V. Pangilinan, since the former is a member of the FIBA Central Board and is FIBA Asia vice president.
So who is being groomed as the SBP president?
