RYAN Gregorio is set to hold a key role in the Philippines’ campaign in the 2018 Asian Games.
The three-time PBA Press Corps Coach of the Year awardee will be in charge of scouting the opposition as a member of the coaching staff of head coach Yeng Guiao.
Guiao said Gregorio is already preparing footages of Kazakhstan as well as China, their Group D opponents in the Asian Games men’s basketball tournament.
“Ang lead person natin sa scouting is coach Ryan Gregorio,” said Guiao. “They are already working on the materials. Ginagawa na nila ‘yung materials. Pagdating namin doon, aaralin na namin lahat ‘yun.”
Gregorio brings in a vast coaching experience that includes stints with Purefoods and Meralco. Gregorio reunited with current Rain or Shine cager James Yap for this year’s Asiad, having led the Purefoods franchise to three PBA titles.
Three-time Asian Games campaigner Asi Taulava said Gregorio has already been sending out snippets of matches of their opponents for the quadrennial showpiece.
“You have coach Ryan Gregorio sending videos on Viber and that’s the great thing about social media 2018. We were still in the stone ages,” said Taulava, referring to his two other Asiad stints.
The team is expected to be preparing lengthy scouting reports against Kazakhstan which the Philippines will play on Thursday owing to the tournament format in which only two teams from Group D will advance into the quarterfinals.
