GILAS Pilipinas star Terrence Romeo stood by the actions of the national team during a full-scale brawl that marred its game against Australia in the 2019 Fiba World Cup Asian qualifiers on Monday night.
While the crowd at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan cheered Gilas on and booed the Boomers after the free-for-all, some former and current players took to social media to criticize what they felt was an 'embarrassing' incident.
Romeo, one of the nine Gilas players ejected for their role in the fraces, stressed that Gilas players were just standing up for one another.
“Dun sa mga kapwa namin players na nag sasabing embarassing kami wala kaming paki alam sa inyo,” he posted on his Twitter account @tbvromeo.
“Kami mag kaka teammate sa loob kailangan namin mag tulungan. Hindi namin pwede pabayaan yung isat isa,” he added. “Kung embarassing kami sa mata niyo bat di kayo mag convert ng australian."
After his first tweet went viral, the TNT Katropa guard fired another volley at critics.
“Hindi niyo alam ang sacrifice namin Kung para sainyo mali tulungan namin yung kakampi namin sinasaktan problema niyo na yun basta kami walang iwanan tapos!!!”
