BOCAUE — Roger Pogoy said he was deeply honored by compliments from former NCAA star shooter Steve Sir of Canada after their close game in the Fiba 3x3 Word Cup at the Philippine Arena.
The TNT Katropa guard finished among the Top 25 scorers in group play, and he came up with a huge game against Canada.
“You played a good game. You're one good shooter!” Sir told Pogoy after the Canadians' slim 20-19 win over the Philippines in Pool C action on Monday.
The 35-year-old Sir remains the NCAA Division I’s all-time leader for three-point percentage, going on a 46.9-percent clip from beyond the arc during his time at San Diego State and Northern Arizona.
Pogoy earned every bit of that praise for his stellar showing in the tourney.
The Cebuano sharp-shooter finished pool play with 20 points built on nine two-pointers over four games. He saved his best performance against Canada, where he made four long bombs that made Sir’s jaw drop.
Hearing the words Sir had for him, Pogoy is doubly motivated to continue honing his craft.
