RJ Abarrientos gave the Philippines something to cheer about in the 2018 Fiba 3x3 Under-23 World Cup by winning the Three-Point Shootout on Sunday in Xi'an, China.

Abarrientos figured in a tie with Aleksandr Antoniokovskii of Russia after both scored nine points in the final, but the FEU-Diliman standout got the gold in the side event for making his shots faster.

Fiba 3x3 rules stipulated ties will be decided on who gets to the score the fastest.

The Filipino sniper started off slow, making only one basket in his first rack before heating up late, making four in the third rack and two of his three attempts from distance.

Antoniokovskii took home the silver, while Laura Zdraveska of Germany bagged bronze with her eight points.

Hometown bet Yu Qi of China wound up fourth with her eight points.

It was a silver lining for the Filipinos, which bowed out of the group stages with their 2-2 card in the youth competitions.
