RICCI Rivero of the University of the Philippines hits the halfcourt once again with FEU’s RJ Abarrientos and San Beda's Rhayyan Amsali, and will be joined by Barkley Ebona in the 2019 Fiba 3x3 Asia Cup from May 22 to 26 in Changsha, China.
The 21-year-old Rivero makes his comeback to the 3x3 scene as he teams up anew with high school standouts Amsali and Abarrientos following their ninth place finish in the 2018 Fiba 3x3 Under-23 World Cup in Xi'An, China back in October.
Rivero helped UP finish fourth in the UAAP 3x3 men's tournament, while Amsali led San Beda to a runner-up finish in the NCAA 3x3 tourney.
Abarrientos also saw action in the level-4 tournament Smart SBP 3x3, while this will be Ebona's 3x3 debut.
The Filipinos, coached by Ronnie Magsanoc, need to top Group A in the qualifiers to make it to the main tournament.
The Philippines is grouped with Qatar, Iran, Samoa and Thailand. The first place team in the pool will move to Group B, where top teams China and New Zealand await.
