JUST being considered anew to be part of Gilas Pilipinas pool is already an honor for LA Tenorio.
After all, in his own very words, anybody in the 17-man pool deserves to become part of the 12-man lineup competing for next year’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
“Kahit sino makuha dun, mabigat na lineup 'yun,” said Tenorio while waiting with his Barangay Ginebra teammates for the start of the PBA 41st season opening ceremony on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“It’s gonna be an interesting 17-man lineup.”
Tenorio was one of five returning Gilas players named by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) to the national pool for the 2016 Olympic qualifiers. The others were Japeth Aguilar, June Mar Fajardo, Paul Lee, and Jeff Chan.
He said energetic forward Calvin Abueva and gunner Terrence Romeo, who both had their baptism of fire with the national team in the last Fiba Asia Championship, are a welcome addition to coach Tab Baldwin’s roster.
“Alam naman natin na revelation silang dalawa, and definitely, added weapon ang mga 'yun sa national team,” he said of Abueva and Romeo.
