    Raymond Almazan unselfish with selfies, but puts foot down on jersey swaps

    SO who says only Terrence Romeo is getting rock star treatment in the Southeast Asia Basketball Association (Seaba) Championship?

    Big man Raymund Almazan also had the same experience.

    The Rain or Shine center got the surprise of his life when burly Malaysian center Chan Kek Thai approached him after the game against Gilas Pilipinas and asked to have a photo taken with him.

    Not one to turn down a request, the Gilas first-timer obliged.

    “Sabi niya I wanna take a picture with you,” the 6-foot-7 Almazan recalled about the encounter that took place shortly after the host country dealt the Malaysians – mostly composed of players of the Blu Star team that recently saw action in the PBA D-League – a 106-51 beating on Sunday night.

    While most of the Malaysian players chose to have their photos taken with Romeo, the 6-foot-5 Chan opted to have one with Almazan.

    “Idol niya raw kasi ako,” said the former Letran star.

    Chan, the oldest in the young Malaysian squad at 33, was the one who took Andray Blatche down during one sequence late in the first quarter of a game the Filipinos dominated from start to finish.

    But he was surely nice with Almazan.

    “Flattered lang siguro,” said the Gilas big man when asked how he felt about it.

    Almazan’s generosity however, is limited to selfies. No jersey-giving, please, he said.

    “Hindi ko ibibigay kasi first time ko lang ito (sa Gilas),” stressed Almazan.
