RADGE Tongco scored 24 points to lead the Philippines to an 85-60 win over Jordan on Wednesday at the start of the Batang Gilas’ campaign in the Fiba-Asia Under-18 Championship in Doha, Qatar.
Tongco, a rookie of the San Beda Red Lions, shot 11-of-17 from the field for Batang Gilas, who all but put the game away after outscoring Jordan, 30-13, in the second quarter.
Joshua Caracut added 11 points while Fiba Under-17 World Championship campaigner Paul Desidero and Manuel Mosqueda chipped in 10 for Batang Gilas, who will next face reigning runner-up South Korea on Thursday.
Kobe Paras only had six points in his first game with Batang Gilas but it was Tongco who stole the show in leading the Jamike Jarin-mentored squad to the first win.
Mohammed Alabed Allat had 21 points and nine rebounds while Khaled Abuaboud had 11 points and 22 rebounds for Jordan, which lost its second game in the tournament.
