CAN Scottie Thompson make it back to Gilas Pilipinas in time for the FIBA World Cup?
Scottie Thompson injury update
As time ticked away, the Barangay Ginebra point guard remains unaccounted for as he didn't practice anew with the national team in its second closed-door meeting at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
As it is, Scottie is now the only member of the training pool that has yet to report for duty for the final phase of the national team's preparations two weeks to go before the FIBA World Cup kicks off.
Thompson continues to rehab for the right metacarpal fracture he suffered during Gilas Pilipinas' training camp in Europe.
Coach Chot Reyes explained earlier Thompson's case is on a per week basis depending on the results of X-ray on his injured hand.
He admitted Gilas is already preparing in the event the team's ideal point guard fails to get healthy for the World Cup especially with the initial prognosis Thompson could only be available yet on August 18, or about a week before the tournament unfolds.
“If he gets cleared only Aug. 18 to start practicing, I think that’s going to be too difficult,” Reyes admitted.
But a video posted on Facebook just this week showed Thompson already practicing his shooting using both his hands, unlike previous posts that saw him shooting the basketball only with his left hand.
