President Duterte wants no 'special treatment' when he cheers for Gilas vs France, says aide

    Jul 2, 2016
President Duterte has sent word that he will watch the Gilas-France game.

THE most powerful man in the Philippines just wants to be a common basketball fan when he cheers for Gilas Pilipinas.

Executive assistant Bong Go confirmed President Rodrigo Duterte’s plan to watch the national team against France in Day One of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament on Tuesday night.

“Sa opening, plano niyang manood to give his support sa mga kababayan,” Go told SPIN.ph. “Though hindi siya masyado mahilig sa basketball, alam mo naman si Presidente, pag para sa bayan, full support yan.”

When he comes, Duterte hardly wants any special attention as possible, according to his most trusted man.

“Ang gusto ni Presidente, just as any other ordinary person (lang siya),” said Go, who watched Gilas’ tune-up game against Turkey on Friday night. “Ayaw niya yung special treatment, so merge lang siya sa public and just enjoy the game.”

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Manny V. Pangilinan welcomes the presence of the Davaoeno President.

“There are indications he might come, but he’s a very busy man, so it’s really up to him,” the SBP boss said. “But he’s more than welcome to come.”
