BOCAUE — Poland suffered a 17-13 defeat at the hands of Estonia earlier in the day but nonetheless advanced to the playoffs of the men’s tournament in the 2018 Fiba 3x3 World Cup Sunday at Philippine Arena here.
A three-way logjam on top of Pool B benefitted Poland as it joined top-seed Slovenia to the next round thanks to the tiebreak on points scored.
Slovenia wound up first with 81 points, followed by Poland with 76. Estonia just missed out in the quarterfinals as it only mustered 71.
Latvia also ended its pool play with a pair of convincing wins in Pool D.
The Latvians pulled off a 21-19 escape over Croatia before Agnis Cavars capped off the 22-11 win over Nigeria with a booming three to finish the group stages at 4-0.
Also moving on to the next round is Ukraine, which ranked second in the group with its 3-1 record.
Latvia will face Poland in the quarterfinals, while Slovenia takes on Ukraine on Tuesday.
Teams from Pool A and Pool C round out the competitions on Monday, with the Philippines schedule to face Canada and Russia.
