THE Philippines has been bracketed with Australia and Malaysia in the Fiba Under-16 Asian Championship in Foshan, China following a draw ceremony on Tuesday night.
The Batang Gilas, who qualified for the tournament after copping the 2016 Seaba Under-16 Championship, ended up in Group B with powerhouse Australia, which is making its debut in the Asian region.
Group A is composed of China, New Zealand, and Hong Kong, while Group C has Iran, Chinese Taipei, and Macau. Defending champion South Korea is in Group D along with Japan, Lebanon, and India.
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) is expected to release the official roster of the April 2 to 8 tournament in the coming weeks.
Kai Sotto led Batang Gilas to the Seaba crown last year to gain entry in the Fiba-Asia Under-16 tournament, a qualifier for the 2018 Fiba Under-17 Basketball World Cup.
