    Hot-shooting Greece simply too good for Batang Gilas in Fiba U17 world championship

    THE Philippines lost its second game in the Fiba Under-17 World Championship, bowing to Greece, 85-65, on Saturday in Dubai.

    The Batang Gilas ofund themselves in a hole after scoring in single digits in the second and third quarters against the hot-shooting Greeks, who made a total of 13 three-pointers in the game.

    The Philippines were outscored, 21-9, and 17-7, in the middle quarters as Greece put together its first game after losing to powerhouse United States on opening day.

    Antonis Pefanis had 26 points on 6-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc for the Greeks.

    Jolo Mendoza had 19 points while Mike Nieto had 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Philippines, which will face the United States on Monday to wrap up its preliminary campaign.

    Greece (85) – Pefanis 26, Koniaris 14, Ntouzidis 9, Flionis 6, Michaloutsos 6, Skordas 6, Kamaras 5, Diploras 4, Mouratos 4, Milentigievits 2, Charalampopoulos 2, Papagiannis 1.

    Philippines (65) – Mendoza 19, Nieto 11, Dela Cruz 9, Go 7, Desiderio 6, Escoto 4, Navarro 4, Abadeza 2, Dario 2, Padilla 1, Panlilio 0.

    Quarterscores: 25-17, 46-26, 63-33, 85-65.
