THE Philippines was overwhelmed by mighty China, 91-49, on Saturday night in the Fiba-Asia Under-18 Championship at the Al Ghafara Stadium in Doha.

The Batang Gilas were never a threat against the taller defending champions, trailing the whole match and suffering their second loss in four games in Group E.

No one from the Philippine side scored in double figures, with Brandrey Bienes coming up with just nine points. Dave Yu and Paul Desiderio added eight points each, while Radge Tongco failed to score after leading the way for the Filipino cagers in previous games.

The Philippines goes up against Southeast Asian neighbors Malaysia (2-2) on Sunday as it vies for the No. 3 spot in Group E for the crossover quarterfinal round.

    The scores:

    China (91) – Zhao 25, Yang 14, Zou 13, Sun 11, Shao 11, Zhou 9, Zuo 6, Zhang 2, Shi 0, Wang 0, Wu 0, Liu 0.

    Philippines (49) – Bienes 9, Yu 8, Desiderio 8, Mosqueda 4, Santillan 4, Paras 4, Go 3, Black 3, Escoto 2, Dyke 2, Caracut 2, Tongco 0.
