THE Olympic dream is alive for the Philippines as it earned a ticket to the Fiba 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) for men.

The Philippines was one of the 20 nations which earned a place in the OQT, to be held in India come March 2020.

Fiba made the announcement on Friday in Utsunomiya in Japan, ahead of the 2019 Fiba 3x3 World Tour Final.

The Filipinos were placed in Pool C, where it will have their hands full against Slovenia, France, Qatar, and Dominican Republic.

Tough as the road may seem, getting a ticket to the OQT will always be a welcome development, especially in the propagation of the discipline in the country.

"We’re very happy that the Philippines will be competing in the upcoming Olympic Qualifying Tournament for a shot at making it to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. 3x3 is an area where Filipino basketball players can really excel and we’re delighted that a Filipino basketball team will get to test their skills against the world’s best," said Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) president Al Panlilio.

"The SBP thanks all the private promoters that held 3x3 events, especially Chooks-To-Go led by Ronald Mascarinas. We’re proud of the joint effort from the Philippines basketball community that helped us reach this goal."

For its part, Mascarinas said he believes that this is a testament to all the hardwork that was put in.

"We are extremely happy with this development. But we could not have done it without the combined efforts of everyone," he said.

Mascarinas continued: "The journey is far from over as the goal is to not just make it to the OQT. The endgame is to make it to Tokyo. We are going all out to prepare our national team for this and we hope that everyone joins us in this journey."
