Perlas cagebelles suffer third straight setback at hands of Korea, draw China in quarters

BANGALORE, India - Perlas Pilipinas suffered another blow in its Fiba Asia Women's Cup campaign here after going down against South Korea, 91-63, on Tuesday night at the Kanteerava Indoor Stadium.

It was the third straight loss for the Filipina cagebelles, who are seeing action for the first time in Level 1 of the biennial meet, counting earlier setbacks against world power Australia and defending champion Japan.

Perlas is the only team which failed to register a win in Group B, but nonetheless advanced to the quarterfinal round, where it will next face Group A top notcher and former champion China.

Alyanna Lim topscored for 14 pts in yet another losing cause for the national team.

Other quarterfinals match up features reigning champion Japan against Chinese-Taipei, Group B no. 1 Australia versus North Korea, and New Zealand opposite South Korea.

The tournament takes a one-day break prior to the start of the knockout phase on Thursday.
