Perlas Pilipinas' hope for a medal dims after Thailand blows past Indonesia

    Aug 26, 2017

KUALA LUMPUR - Perlas Pilipinas' hopes for a medal dimmed on Friday night after Thailand beat Indonesia, 70-61, in the 29th Southeast Asian Games women's basketball tournament at the MABA Stadium.

The Thais improved to 4-1 win-loss going to their match against host Malaysia (5-0) on Saturday at the end of the round-robin tournament which will decide the gold-medal winner.

The Philippines is currently in third with a 4-2 record while Indonesia is in fourth with a 3-2 card going to the final playdate pitting Malaysia against Thailand and Indonesia against Singapore.

Perlas can land a silver medal if Malaysia wins over Thailand and Indonesia loses to Singapore. Such a scenario will have Malaysia (6-0) winning the gold and Perlas beating Thailand for the silver by virtue of the winner-over-the-other rule.

However, a three-way tie among Perlas, Thailand, and Indonesia will have the Indons winning the silver medal and Thailand the bronze due to superior quotients.
