WUHAN, China – Perlas Pilipinas bounced back big from an opening day loss in the Fiba-Asia Women’s Championships Level 2 after pulling off a 68-67 cliffhanger against DPR Korea on Sunday at the
Cindy Resultay scored all of the team’s last six points in the final 54 seconds to pull off the thrilling win in a game that saw the Filipina cagebelles battled back from as much as a 16-point deficit (16-32) midway in the second period.
Resultay scored all of his team-high 14 points in the final quarter on 5-of-7 shooting from the field to lead Perlas back in contention after losing its opening game against defending Southeast Asian Games champion Malaysia on Saturday, 64-71.
Allana Lim also had 14 points while Raiza Rose Dy and Afril Bernardino each added 11 for the Pinay cagebelles, who face Sri Lanka next on Monday.
Perlas still trailed, 44-52, entering the fourth before Resultay combined with Dy and Camille Sambile to bring the team back into the game.
A two-pointer by Dy tied the game at 60-all, but the Nokors regained the lead on a three-pointer by H Pak with 1:19 left, 65-62.
Resultay took over from there.
She outscored the entire North Korean team going home, 6-2, to pull off the stunning win, her free throw with 40 seconds left giving Perlas a 68-66 lead.
Mi Gyong Jang pulled the Nokors to within 68-67 on a free throw, but her turnover in the team’s final possession also proved to be its downfall.
Suk Yu Ro led the Nokors with 21 points, while HK Pak added 19.
