WITH a stacked guard line-up, Paul Lee said he wouldn’t mind not making it to the final roster of Gilas Pilipinas in the next window of the Fiba Basketball World Cup Asian qualifiers.
Lee was included in the 20-man pool of Team Pilipinas coach Yeng Guiao for the matches of the national squad against Kazakhstan on November 30 and Iran on December 3 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Lee will be joined by a guard line-up consisting of Jayson Castro and LA Tenorio, teammates of his during their stint in the 2014 Fiba World Cup, along with Marcio Lassiter, Alex Cabagnot, Stanley Pringle, and Scottie Thompson.
“Parang hindi na ako kailangan doon,” Lee said in jest.
Turning serious, Lee said he is honored to once again be part of the Gilas pool after seeing action in the Asian Games and in the previous Fiba Basketball World Cup Asian qualifiers window more so since he will be reunited with his former World Cup teammates Castro and Tenorio.
“Of course, makasama ka lang sa grupo na ‘yun, malaking bagay na eh. Kagaya nung naging part ako sa Fiba world, kasama ko si Kap Jimmy (Alapag), si LA, si Jayson, marami akong natutunan doon. Chance ko uli na matuto sa kanila kasi mas sila ang nakakaalam,” said Lee.
Looking at the 20-man pool, Lee said he looks forward to competing for a spot in the coming Fiba window.
“Kung hindi man ako maline-up, okay lang sa akin. Sila ‘yung mas nakakaalam. Sila ‘yung may experience sa international game. Ready lang ako makipag-compete sa kanila every game,” said Lee.
