PAUL Lee wasn't going to miss Gilas Pilipinas' Tuesday evening session, especially after sitting out the day prior and the national team pressed for time in its preparations for the sixth window of the 2019 Fiba World Cup Asian qualifiers.
"Medyo nananakit pa pero iwas iwas na lang," he said as he trained despite an injured right thumb.
It was the first time Lee had the chance to take the court with Blatche since they played together in the Gilas Pilipinas side that took part in the 2014 staging of the World Cup in Spain.
The shifty guard from Tondo won't let the pain get in the way of his training with Team Pilipinas, more so with the position the team is in these qualifying rounds.
"Kahit na may nararamdaman tayo, ilalaro na natin yun," Lee said, fully aware of the importance of these next set of road games.
"Gusto natin makabawi sa Kazakhstan at gusto natin makaabot sa World Cup. So titiisin na lang siguro natin yung nararamdaman natin. Konting sakripisyo lang naman eh."
The Philippines is in a precarious position with its 5-5 card in Group F, with only the top three teams from each group as well as the fourth-place team with the best record earning a ticket to China in August.
Though the pain in his thumb still lingers, Lee said that he's ready to brave on.
"Thumb lang naman ito. As long as hindi siya matamaan, I'm good," he assured.
