ARGENTINA stunned title favorite Serbia, 97-87, on Monday to move to the semifinals of the Fiba Basketball World Cup 2019 in Dongguan, China.
Veteran Luis Scola scored 20 points while Facundo Campazzo had 18 points, 12 assists and six rebounds to lead Argentina to the semifinals where it will face either Team USA or France.
Argentina, at No. 5 in the Fiba rankings just a place below Serbia, is now unbeaten through six games at the World Cup, its first since the retirement of longtime star Manu Ginobili.
The loss was a bitter pill to swallow for Serbia, which finished runner-up to Team USA at the 2014 World Cup and was favored to win the title this time.
Nikola Jokic led Serbia with 16 points, 10 rebounds and five assists but committed five turnovers. Fellow NBA player Bogdan Bogdadovic led the team in scoring with 21 points while Nemanja Bjelica came off the bench to contribute 18.
Patricio Garino added 15 points for Argentina.
