THERE will be no Jordan Clarkson for the Philippine team in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.
According to sources, the NBA has thumbed down the 26-year-old Fil-American guard's bid to suit up for the country in the continental showpiece, much to the dismay of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.
Sources close to the situation confirmed the news on Saturday, dashing hopes of Clarkson finally donning the national tri-colors.
Clarkson was named to coach Yeng Guiao’s 12-man roster on Friday after he got a clearance to play from the Indonesia Asian Games Organizing Committee, with the SBP officials hoping to also secure clearance from the NBA in time for the team’s first game against Kazakhstan.
Without the Cleveland Cavalier, the Philippine team edged TNT, 78-76, in its lone tuneup game before leaving for Jakarta on Sunday.
The SBP will now try to make a late replacement and insert TNT swingman Don Trollano in lieu of Clarkson.
