TROY Rosario remains humble and hopeful despite the daunting task of cracking the Gilas Pilipinas line-up for the Fiba Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Manila this July.

The 24-year-old Tropang TNT rookie is part of the 22-man pool that is training for the final Olympic qualifiers for the Rio De Janeiro Olympics set July 5 to 10 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Rosario said he will try his very best to make it to the 12-man line-up, although he admitted making the cut will be tough for a rookie like him faced against tested stars like June Mar Fajardo, Calvin Abueva, Japeth Aguilar, Marc Pingris, and Ranidel De Ocampo.

“Sobra (hirap). Maraming beterano,” said Rosario. “Pero trabaho lang. Kung ano ipapagawa sa akin. Mapili man ako o hindi, at least nag-try. Try lang ng try.”

Rosario, though, is determined more than ever to make it to the OQT team of Gilas after failing to join the final 12 last year for the Fiba Asia Championship.

“Parang second chance na ‘to kasi last year, na-cut ako. Malay natin ngayon, magkaroon uli ng chance na makasama sa 12. Mahaba pa ‘yung preparation, marami pang puwedeng mangyari, at maraming pwedeng magbago," he said.

“Trabaho lang talaga. Malay mo, mapansin ng mga coaches at management,” added Rosario.

But before continuing his bid for a slot in Gilas, Rosario will first see action for the Gilas cadets in the 2016 Seaba Cup set to begin on Sunday in Bangkok--a move he even initiated to team management.

“Before pa nagsimula, nagsabi na ako kay boss Butch (Antonio) na kung isama ako sa pool, sasama ako,” said Rosario.

Rosario is eager to lead the young squad, being one of two PBA players aside from Almond Vosotros.

“Tinatry namin maging leaders sa mga bago naming teammates. Linelead namin ‘yung team hanggang sa makakaya namin. Talent-wise, may talent talaga itong team na ‘to,” said Rosario.
