KUALA LUMPUR - Christian Standhardinger will join the Gilas Pilipinas cadets in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games on Saturday just in time for their debut the following day against Thailand.

Head coach Jong Uichico said Standhardinger arrived in Manila on Friday afternoon from Beirut, Lebanon and will make the shorter trip to the Malaysian capital on Saturday night.

Standhardinger made the whirlwind trip to reinforce the Gilas cadets in the SEA Games after the Fil-German big man played for Gilas Pilipinas in the Fiba Asia Cup in Beirut, Lebanon.

"He arrived already in Manila. He is on his way (here) tomorrow, like our time, ganitong oras (night)," said Uichico.

Uichico said Standhardinger's addition is a big shot in the arm for Gilas, which has relied mostly on Troy Rosario and Kobe Paras in an undersized frontline.

Mac Belo is also expected to reinforce Gilas' frontline as a replacement for Carl Bryan Cruz.

"Medyo nagkaroon tayo ng size because right now, our size that we have is Kobe (Paras) and Troy (Rosario). Christian will be another. At least, hindi tayo ma-agrabyado sa rebounds," said Uichico.
