Small window of opportunity as Abueva, Tenorio can still make Gilas lineup as late replacements

THERE’S still a glimmer of hope for Calvin Abueva and LA Tenorio to make the final roster of Gilas Pilipinas in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament next week.

For those asking, national coach Tab Baldwin confirmed roster changes are allowed should there be an injury to a player in the 12-man lineup, giving him a choice between final cuts Abueva and Tenorio on a possible replacement.

But that small window is open only until the day before the start of the competition on July 5 when the Filipino dribblers host France.

“I think it’s the day before the tournament starts, so if we were to get an injury, (we’ll make one), but hopefully we won’t,” Baldwin told SPIN.ph after practice on Thursday night.

“Once the tournament starts, no more changes (are allowed),” he was quick to add.

Abueva and Tenorio have since rejoined their mother clubs, Alaska and Ginebra, respectively, after their fight for Gilas roster spots fell short.
