BOCAUE — European teams threw their weight around on Day One of competitions in the 2018 Fiba 3x3 World Cup Friday at Philippine Arena.

Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Croatia all came out unscathed as they held the top spots in their respective groups.

The most impressive of those wins, though, was the Polish side upsetting perennial contender Slovenia, 21-17.

Michael Hicks led all scorers for the day with 18 points for Poland in Pool B.

Apart from that, everything went as expected with the higher seeds taking out their foes.

Estonia dispatched Japan, 17-11, and Indonesia, 22-10, to grab a share of the lead in Pool B.

In Pool D, Croatia hardly broke a sweat against Jordan, 22-7, and Nigeria, 22-7, in record time, while Latvia escaped with a slim 21-18 victory over Ukraine before holding its ground against Jordan, 22-13.
