Underdog Philippine 3x3 team offered extra incentives ahead of Fiba World Cup debut
The Philippines is seeded 19th in the 20-team field.

BOCAUE — THE stakes just got higher for the Philippine men’s 3x3 team.

Coming in as underdogs in the 2018 Fiba 3x3 World Cup, the Filipinos were offered extra incentives by Gilas Pilipinas chief backer Chooks-to-Go before seeing action at the Philippine Arena.

Bounty Agro Ventures Inc. president Ronald Mascariñas vowed to reward Christian Standhardinger, Roger Pogoy, Troy Rosario, and Stanley Pringle for every win they get in the tournament.

“This is just our way of showing appreciation for the sacrifices made by our players,” he said. “Imagine, for the past few weeks, they've been practicing twice a day. So their efforts should be rewarded.”

Mascariñas refused to divulge the exact amount of the bonuses, but gave a fair estimate.

"If we give away more than two-million on top of our sponsorship, ibig sabihin noon nag-champion na tayo," he said.

The squad coached by PBA great Ronnie Magsanoc is seeded 19th in the 20-team tournament.

The hosts are slotted in Pool C and will make its debut on Saturday against Brazil and Mongolia before finishing off the group stages with games against Canada and Russia on Monday.
