PERLAS Pilipinas opened its campaign in the 2015 Fiba-Asia Women’s Championship Level 2 on a sad note after losing to Malaysia on Saturday, 64-71, in Wuhan, China.

Allana Lim fired 17 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and issued two assists, but the effort was not enough to carry the Filipina cagebelles past the Malaysians, the reigning Southeast Asian Games champion.

Curiously, Perlas beat the same team, 74-63, during their faceoff in the SEA Games held in Singapore last June.

Eugene Chiau Teng had 17 points to lead three players in double for Malaysia, whose free throw accuracy proved to be a major factor in the win.

The Malaysians were 18-of-27 from the foul line compared to the 12-of-25 by the Philippines.

Perlas Pilipinas will next face North Korea on Sunday in the tournament where the top two teams in Level 2 will meet the bottom two teams in Level 1 for promotion.
