No expectations for Jeric Teng in making PH cut as PBA free agent awaits callup: 'Nagpapakundisyon lang'

THE sight of Teng brothers Jeric and Jeron going at each other inside the basketball brought back memories from an epic UAAP finals between UST and La Salle in 2013.

But that is no more than a beautiful memory now for the sons of former PBA player Alvin.

The two are training for the Gilas Pilipinas team under the Chooks To Go banner that will represent the country in the Fiba Asia Champions Cup next week.

Currently a free agent in the PBA, the older Teng said he is tempering expectations.

While he's hopeful to make the pool, Jeric said he is merely trying to stay in basketball shape as he waits for a PBA call-up after his contract with Kia expired at the end of August.

"I have no expectations naman. Nagpapakundisyon lang. Gusto ko rin matuto at the same time makatulong sa team," he said.

"Of course lahat naman gusto (makapasok sa pool) but I really have no expectations. I'm just gonna give my all every practice."

Whether he makes the team or not, Jeric is just glad he shares the court with his younger brother again.

"Masaya ako dahil pumupunta kami dito nang sabay. Napaguusapan namin yung team. Lalo kaming nagiging close, bonding na rin namin to," he said.

The 2009 UAAP Rookie of the Year can only wish they would the same in the PBA someday.

"Hopefully, yun na yung best case scenario," he said.
