THE group of Manny V. Pangilinan welcomed the move by the PBA board of governors to convene and tackle the issue concerning the participation of Gilas Pilipinas in next year’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Epok Quimpo, an executive of MVP Sports, said the mere fact the league board scheduled a special meeting on Wednesday noon at the PBA office is already proof of its sincere intention to help the national team in its preparation for the July 4-6 tournaments serving as qualifiers for the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Summer Games.

The board convening on short notice was in obvious answer to the call of Pangilinan, head of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), to assemble the best Gilas team possible as the country eyes to end a long 43-year Olympic drought.

“It’s actually good news to hear that there’s an emergency meeting (tomorrow). If you read between the lines, if there’s a meeting, therefore, there’s changes,” said Quimpo, who represented Talk ‘N Text alternate board of governor Patrick Gregorio during the formal launching of the PBA 41st season Tuesday at the Diamond Hotel.
