MIKE Oliver has been reappointed as head coach of the Batang Gilas national youth team for this year, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas executive director Sonny Barrios confirmed on Friday.

The SBP has jumpstarted its preparations for the youth squad with the reappointment of Oliver, who has been with the national team for three years now.

Under Oliver’s watch, the Batang Gilas cagers finished seventh in the 2016 Fiba Asia Under-18 Championship, reaching the quarterfinals despite the unavailability of top high school players.

The former Far Eastern University juniors coach will look to lead the Batang Gilas cagers to the title in the Seaba Under-16 Championship, which the country will be hosting either in April or May. The Seaba tilt is a qualifier for the Fiba-Asia Under-16 tilt.

Expected to be part of the national youth pool are teenaged big men Kai Sotto and Ethan Kirkness.
