KUALA LUMPUR - Mac Belo returned to Manila on Wednesday after failing to get the green light to become a replacement player for Gilas Pilipinas in the 29th Southeast Asian Games.

Coach Jong Uichico said Belo went home to resume practice with PBA mother team Blackwater after a Gilas bid to tap him as a replacement for Carl Bryan Cruz failed to get the organizers' approval.

"I think it is just but fair," said Uichico. "Kung hindi naman siya makakalaro, eh di maglaro na lang siya sa Blackwater. Parang fair lang."

Uichico said he felt bad for Belo as the highly touted rookie out of Far Eastern University religiously attended Gilas Pilipinas practices during the buildup for the SEA Games.

"I feel for Mac. Gusto talaga niya maglaro. I think he is 100 percent or close to 100 percent," said Uichico.

Uichico, meanwhile, is looking forward to have Cruz get his shape after a grueling trip from Beirut where he saw action fro Gilas Pilipinas in the Fiba Asia Cup.
