JC Intal on being surprise Gilas pick: 'Hindi mo naman ma-pe-please lahat ng tao'

JC Intal was the last player off the Meralco gym court on Wednesday night, working on his free throws while most of his Gilas Pilipinas teammates began to grant the media interviews and fans some photo requests.

He has already been named to the Final 12, yet the Barako Bull star is acting as if he’s still trying out for the national team that will vie for top honors in the Fiba Asia Championship in China in two weeks.

“I’m treating it as wala pang finality kasi nandyan yung MVP Cup and anytime pwede nilang palitan yung lineup,” Intal said after finally taking a breather.

Under the rules, changes in the roster are allowed until the eve of the Rio Olympics continental qualifier that unfurls on September 23.

“Hindi pa nag-sink in kasi pwede pang palitan talaga,” Intal continued. “Ayaw ko mag-assume nasa twelve na ako kahit na-announce na.”

“I’m trying to psyche myself rin,” the proud Ateneo product added. “Ayaw kong mag-relax dahil nasama lang sa twelve. Right now, my focus is to embrace the moment and be thankful and go hard again.”

After all, he’s also aware that not a few people questioned his selection over the others who missed the cut, particularly Gary David.

“Ang daming haters, pero para sa akin, hindi ko naman pinilit yung sarili ko eh,” Intal said. “I’m just here to support the team, to help the team.”

“And hindi mo naman ma-pe-please lahat ng tao eh.”

“I’m just very thankful and I’ll seize this opportunity,” he added. “Lahat ng na-reserve, I’m sure they deserve a spot. Naka-standby lang sila.”
