BOCAUE — Janine Pontejos clinched a berth in the finals of the Fiba 3x3 World Cup shootout contest at the end of the qualifying round on Monday at the Philippine Arena.

Only one player surpassed Pontejos’ six two-pointers in 22 seconds during Sunday’s qualifier, giving her one of the two berths in the finals to be played on Tuesday during the final day of competitions.

Alexandra Stolyar of Russia earned a trip to the finals after scoring seven two-pointers. Pontejos actually ended up tied with Jiaying Jiang with six points but the Chinese player made hers in a slower time of 30 seconds.

Pontejos and Stolyar will battle Marin Hrvoje of Croatia and Maksim Dybovskii of Russia, who took the top two spots in the men’s category.

Hrvoje scored seven in 23 seconds, while Dybovskii converted six in 24 seconds during the men’s qualifiers.

In the final, the four finalist will take 18 shots in four different locations with the player with the most points scored in the shortest amount of time getting the gold.

David Carlos of the Philippines will also aim for the gold on Tuesday in the slam dunk contest.
