AJ Edu used to be just a blip on Gilas coach Chot Reyes' radar.

But when the outspoken mentor saw the Fil-Nigerian teenager in action for the first time, he couldn't help but marvel at the talent and potential of the lanky forward.

"Unbelievable," Reyes said after the England-based, 6-foot-9 Edu wrapped up his second practice with Gilas on Thursday night at the Meralco Gym.

"We really like him. We've been eyeing him for a long time and now that we have a chance to work with him, we love him even more."

Reyes believed the sky is the limit for the 17-year-old cager, who is set to join the Philippine Under-18 team in the Fiba 3x3 Under-18 World Cup in Chengdu, China late in the month.

"He's very focused. Serious and very coachable," he added. "It's hard to find the level of seriousness and maturity on a 17-year-old. We're very excited. We're very very happy to have him."

If he had it his way, Reyes said he would have included him in the lineup for the Jones Cup, but the kid's school schedule in England is bound to get in the way.

"Gusto ko nga isama yan sa Jones Cup kung pwede lang. He has to go back home and get ready for school," he added.
