FOR a change, Gilas Pilipinas got a piece of good news as gunner Jeff Chan is set to rejoin the national team training pool when it resumes practice on Saturday at the Kerry gym inside the posh Shangrila Hotel at The Fort.

Chan no longer underwent MRI on Friday to check the extent of damage on the groin injury he suffered during Game Six of the PBA Commissioner's Cup finals between Rain or Shine and Alaska.

Instead, the shooting guard out of Far Eastern University just went through therapy to aid the healing process on an injury that kept him out of three practice sessions with the national team.

Chan will be joining the rest of Gilas on the court shortly after Nike officially unveils the outfit of the team for the July 5-10 Olympic Qualifying Tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

"Mag-start n siya tomorrow (with Gilas) pero shooting practice muna," said Charlie Dy of Virtual Playground, which handles the career of the Rain or Shine shooting guard.

Chan rejoining Gilas couldn't have come at a better timw for a national team side that has been plagued by injuries the past few days.

Already begging off from the team are big man Greg Slaughter, Matt Ganuelas-Rosser, and Paul Lee, with the Ginebra center undergoing successful surgery on Friday on an injured ankle.

June Mar Fajardo has also not practiced with the team last Thursday due to swollen knee, same with Marcio Lassiter owing to flu-like symptoms.

The 6-foot-11 San Miguel center however, downplayed the injury, saying he only needs to rest it.
