AN ordinary, back-to-work Monday morning for Filipino sports fans turned into a day to remember when the Philippines finally ended years of frustration against Iran in their high-noon showdown in Chengsha, China.

Filipino fans on their lunch break gathered around television sets to witness another high moment in Philippine basketball as a brave Gilas side proceeded to cut the Iranians and 7-2 center Hamed Haddadi down to size.

Those with no access to the game coverage on free television turned to their computers to tune in on developments either through live streaming or updates on social media.

In true Filipino fashion, euphoria spilled into social media pages when Gilas bravehearts completed the 87-73 win - the Philippines' first against Iran since the Gilas national team program was launched.

Even the normal noontime fare for Pinoy TV viewers, Eat Bulaga and its AlDub kalyeserye, paid tribute to the Gilas boys, with host Vic Sotto making a passing mention of the victory.
